Edwin John Justian

Edwin J. Justian, 105, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday at Iroquois Nursing Home. Born and raised in Syracuse, Edwin spent his entire life in the community he cherished. For 32 years, he worked as a steel grinder at Crucible Steel Co., where his dedication and craftsmanship left an indelible mark. He retired in 1971, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to his craft.

Edwin's faith was a cornerstone of his life. As a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, he found solace and community within the church. Edwin was an active member of the Holy Name Society, contributing his time and energy to the spiritual well-being of the parish. He was also a proud member of the United Steelworkers of America, Local Union 1277, standing in solidarity with his fellow workers.

A true handyman, Edwin had an unparalleled ability to fix anything that came his way. His skills and resourcefulness made him a sought-after problem solver, and he generously shared his talents with friends and family alike.

Above all, Edwin's heart belonged to his family. He found joy and fulfillment in spending time with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations to come. His loving nature and unwavering support created a strong and loving family bond.

Edwin was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances, in 2011; son, Raymond, in 2013; brothers, Chester and Edmund; and sister, Irene Stanczyk. 

Surviving are his daughter, Mary (Ronald) Kellish of Syracuse; grandchildren, Elaine (Andrew) Hague of Chelmsford, MA, Ronald II (Marni) of Castle Rock, CO, and Janice of Syracuse; great-grandchildren, Tierney and Isabella; daughter-in-law, Virginia of Liverpool; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Edwin's life during a visitation on Monday, December 4, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse. A funeral Mass honoring Edwin will follow in the church. 

Edwin will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to be made to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse, NY 13204, in Edwin's memory. May he rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
