Eleanor (VanHorn) Pollock

May 26, 1956 — March 23, 2026

Syracuse

Eleanor (VanHorn) Pollock, 69, of Syracuse, died peacefully on Monday at home. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, Eleanor was a graduate of Corcoran High School. She devoted 35 years of her professional life to MONY, where she worked as a systems analyst until her retirement in 2016.

Eleanor had a true zest for life and found great joy in swing dancing with her beloved life partner, Art. She also enjoyed traveling, music, and animals and was a devoted fan of “The Big Bang Theory.”

Above all, Eleanor cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and were the center of her world.

Eleanor was predeceased by her father, Wendell VanHorn; mother, Ardell Webster; sister, Carole Jovan; and stepfather, Marshall Webster.

Surviving are her life partner, Art Gladstone; daughters, Jill Andrews of Syracuse and Katie (Scott) Andrews of St. George, UT; grandchildren, Dave, Alec, Evan, Lane, Eliza, Kellan, Milly Bea, and Vada; stepdaughter, Emily (Jeremiah Turits) Gladstone of Northampton, MA; stepson, Daniel (Samia Ullah) Gladstone of Astoria; sisters, Barbara (Bill) Giarrosso of Liverpool, Susan (Dave) Linehan of Washington, and Shirley (Jeff) Hunter of Georgia; along with many nieces and nephews.

Per Eleanor’s wishes, there will be no services. In keeping with her appreciation for science, she would remind us that according to the law of conservation of energy, not a bit of her is gone, she is just less orderly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Second Chance Canine Adoption Center, 6660 E. Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville, NY 13078.
