Ferdie L. Stockard, 76, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, surrounded by his loving wife.
Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, he later relocated to Detroit, Michigan, before settling in Syracuse. He attended Bowling Green State University, where he proudly played defensive tackle on the football team. On August 31, 1972, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Technology. Following graduation, he began his career with Ford Motor Company in Detroit. His journey later brought him to Syracuse, where he worked for Miller Brewing before joining Anheuser-Busch in 1983, where he remained until his retirement. Throughout his career, he was respected for his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic.
Ferdie was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ethel Stockard; brothers, Andrew "Andy" Stockard and Frank Stockard; son-in-law, Sidney Armour; mother-in-law, Ollie Howard; father-in-law, Fred Howard; and brothers-in-law, Lee, Freddie, Melton, and Walter Howard.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Marcia; daughter, Dawn Armour; the children he lovingly embraced as his own, Darcia Rufus, Delmar Rufus, and DeWard Rufus; his brother-in-law, Ernest Howard; sisters-in-law, Nardella Stockard, Robin Howard, and Cathy Howard; son-in-law, Tyler Willis Sr.; cherished grandchildren, Lacey, Logan, Lindsey, Deanna, Damya, Dalesha, Dontae, Damari, Delanna, Taylor, Tyler, Tylier, Damariana, and Delilah; and two great-grandchildren.
The Rufus grandchildren were lovingly welcomed into Ferdie's heart through marriage and became family in every sense of the word. Each grandchild held a special place in his heart.
To celebrate Ferdie’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, July 6, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Liverpool Elks Lodge #2348, 3730 Cold Springs Rd., Baldwinsville.
Burial will be private.
