Frances (Hnatko) Malagisi, 98, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she lived a life marked by love, compassion, and quiet strength.
Frances was a graduate of Central High School and went on to attend SUNY Plattsburgh. A woman of deep faith, she was a longtime communicant of Most Holy Rosary Church, where she found both spiritual guidance and a strong sense of community.
Frances was a lifelong reader who found joy in reading. Her love of books was matched only by her devotion to her family. A natural caretaker, she was the heart of her household—always putting others before herself and offering unwavering support, kindness, and love. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort.
Frances found her greatest joy in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought endless pride and happiness into her life. Whether sharing stories, preparing meals, or simply spending time together, she treasured every moment with them.
Frances was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Malagisi in 2012; and son, Donald in 2007.
Surviving are her daughters, Carol Barletta of Syracuse and Anne Malagisi of Tampa, FL; son, Thomas (Jill) of Manlius; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Frances’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave., Syracuse.
A funeral Mass will follow in the church.
