Gudrun Frances "Fran" Vertucci

Gudrun Frances “Fran” Vertucci, 84, of Syracuse, passed away Saturday at Crouse Hospital.

Born in Augusta, GA, Fran spent much of her childhood traveling the world as an "Army brat," experiencing different places and cultures before eventually settling in the Syracuse area, where she spent most of her life.

A graduate of Princess Anne High School, in Virginia Beach, VA, she went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from The College of St. Rose in Albany. Throughout her career, Fran shared her knowledge and love of learning as a substitute teacher in the Westhill and West Genesee Central School Districts. She then went on to work in the banking industry for several years.

Fran was a devoted communicant of the Church of St. Michael & St. Peter and a longtime member of Tuscarora Golf Club. An avid golfer, she especially looked forward to her Wednesday morning golf league, where she enjoyed both the game and the friendships she formed over the years. She also cherished the many winters spent in Dunedin, FL, with her beloved husband, Larry, creating wonderful memories together in the Florida sunshine.

Known for her warm personality and love of life, Fran treasured the friendships she made, and the time spent with those closest to her. Above all, family was the center of her world. She found her greatest happiness in being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, taking pride in their accomplishments and cherishing every opportunity to make lasting memories together.

Fran was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lawrence, in 2023; parents, Charles and Gudrun Pesnicak; brother, Charles Pesnicak; and sister, Thora Pesnicak.

Surviving are her daughters, Lisa (Richard) Nave of Syracuse and Christine (Kevin) Lentz of Gilbert, AZ; son, Bob (Megan) Vertucci of Camillus; six cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Allison, Noah, Madelyn, Thomas and Sydney; brother, Thomas (Lesley) Pesnicak of Stafford, VA; sister, Louise Pesnicak of Virginia Beach, VA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Church of St. Michael & St. Peter, 4781 W. Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in the church.

Fran will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
