Helen (Highbrown) Dayal, 87, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Monday, at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital.
Born in New Jersey, Helen spent her early years abroad, living in Germany for 12 years before settling in Camillus in 1948—a place she proudly called home for the rest of her life. She was a member of the very first graduating class of West Genesee High School and later earned her associate’s degree from Central City Business Institute.
Helen dedicated much of her professional life to M&T Bank, where she worked for 15 years and retired as an assistant manager in 2000. Her kindness, patience, and integrity earned the respect and friendship of colleagues and customers alike.
A devoted member of St. James’ Episcopal Church in Skaneateles, Helen gave generously of her time and talents, volunteering at the church’s thrift shop and participating in parish life. She was especially passionate about helping others and spent more than five years teaching English to immigrants—sharing not only language skills but also encouragement and compassion. An enthusiastic participant in Folksmarch, Helen valued both the opportunity to stay active and the camaraderie of the community.
Helen will be remembered for her warm heart, quick wit, and love of life. She found joy in the simple pleasures—reading a good book, traveling to new destinations, spending time with friends, volunteering, and enjoying a round of golf on a sunny afternoon. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Laura Highbrown; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are her daughters; Anita (Sam) Convertino of Liverpool and Tania (Dan) Knasick of Charlotte, NC; son, Rene of Charleston, SC; sister, Laura Bigness of Camillus; grandchildren, Miguel, Jordan, Antonio, Alex, and Sylie; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon at St. James’ Episcopal Church, 96 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles.
A funeral service will follow at the church.
Helen will be laid to rest in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Jordan.
