Helen Quinn White, 82, of San Antonio, TX, formerly of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Saturday at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
Born and raised in Camillus, Helen was a proud graduate of West Genesee High School and Marywood University. She went on to earn her master’s degree from Syracuse University, beginning a lifelong devotion to education. Helen dedicated 35 years to the West Genesee Central School District, first as a teacher and
then as high school principal for 16 years. She was admired for her unbounded energy and steadfast dedication to students, families, teachers, and staff. Following her retirement in 2002 she served as an interim principal at six other local schools over 10 years.
Helen’s deep sense of faith and community guided her throughout her life. She was a devoted communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a faithful volunteer at the Samaritan Center.
In 2018, Helen and her late husband, Don, moved to San Antonio, becoming members of The Towers, a retirement community near their son. She loved watching her grandsons perform in the Alamo Heights band. Always a servant leader, Helen established a vibrant Catholic ministry at The Towers, enlisting local priests to celebrate weekly Mass for this new congregation.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Don; parents, Helen and Francis Quinn; and brother, F. Patrick Quinn.
Surviving are her son, William S. (Shelley) White of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Molly W. (Tom) Scanlon of South Riding, VA; sisters, Mary Dadey of Syracuse and Sister Francella Quinn of Rochester; grandsons, Ryan Scanlon and Daniel, Jack, and Joseph White; and several nieces and nephews.
