Howard John Miller, 94, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at Camillus Ridge Terrace on Sunday.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Howard was a 1950 graduate of North Catholic High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh and later received his master's degree in business from Duquesne University. Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, where he flew jet fighters during peacetime and attained the rank of First Lieutenant.
In 1968, he relocated with his family to the Syracuse area. Howard began his career with Crucible Steel before joining Colt Industries, where he dedicated 34 years of service and retired as vice president in 1992.
Howard was an avid car enthusiast from a very young age. He was an active member of the Oneida Lake Car Club and collected several antique cars over the years. Passionate about making a positive impact on his community, he served for several years on the board of directors for the Camillus Chamber of Commerce and Meals on Wheels. He also cherished summers in Fair Haven, where he spent many afternoons boating around the bay or relaxing on the deck.
Howard's life was a testament to loving generously and always putting family first.
Howard was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Gloria (Von Vreckin); and sister, Jean Barbary.
Surviving are his daughters, Sandy (Mark) Bianco, Beverly (Doug) Peterson, and Donna Tunguz; grandchildren, Anthony and Christopher Alvaro, Samuel Bianco, Henryk and Andrew Tunguz, and Jacqueline Peterson; six great-grandchildren; and sister, Karen Orpneck.
To celebrate Howard’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated, Friday, July 10, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Camillus.
Howard will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Food Pantry, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
