Howard S. Rogers

Howard S. Rogers, 90, of Sarasota, Florida, and formerly of Fayetteville, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at home. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, on Friday, February 11, 1921, he lived in Camillus and Fayetteville before moving to Sarasota in 1999. Howard was a sales executive with the Ford Motor Company. He entered the investment business in 1961 with Waddell & Reed, Inc. He founded his own financial planning company, Howard S. Rogers & Associates, in 1974, and remained active in the firm until he retired in 1992. Howard was an armored unit commander during World War II. He fought in the battles of Northern France, the Ardennes, and the Rhineland. He was wounded and captured during the Battle of the Bulge but managed to escape in March 1945. While serving in England, he met his future wife, Edna M. “Jonnie” Powell-Johnson. They were married for 50 years when she died in 1996. Howard was founder and former president of the Thornton Manor Homeowners Association in Camillus. He was also the founder of the board of directors of the Kimry Moor Homeowners Association of Fayetteville and a member of the board of directors of Lakeshore Village Condominium in Sarasota. He was an affiliate of DeWitt Community Church in DeWitt and a member of the Church of the Palms in Sarasota. Howard is survived by his wife, Doris Rogers; son, Douglas Rogers of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David Kolceski Sr. of Solvay; grandchildren, David and Susan Kolceski of Liverpool, Paul, Gregory and Jessica Kolceski, all of Solvay; great grandson, Devin of Liverpool; stepson, Roger Dimik of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Marilyn Brodd of Raleigh, North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Church of the Palms in Sarasota.
