James S. Burke

Syracuse

James S. Burke, 86, of Baldwinsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, at Francis House. Born in Syracuse, he resided in Baldwinsville for 13 years.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Marcellus High School and a U.S, Army veteran. Employed by the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades for 33 years, he retired in 2017. For 25 years he worked at St. Joseph’s Church in Camillus and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Dorthea and Martin Burke; grandparents, Anna and Michael Burke; sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara (Bob) Ackerman and Joan (Richard) Costello; and grandson, Peter Laszlo.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Geraldine Mahaney; daughter, Tracey (Larry) Burke Laszlo of Syracuse; sons, Patrick (Debbie) of Camillus and David (Lori) of Danbury, CT; grandchildren, Judy (Joseph) Laszlo Curtin of Lysander, Tom (Bridget) Laszlo of Camillus, Michael (Claire) Laszlo of California, Brendon (Rachael) Burke of Syracuse, Kiernan (Kali) Burke of Camillus, Caitlin (Josh) Burke of Boston, MA and Matt Burke of Danbury, CT; great-grandchildren, Ellie, JJ and James Burke Curtin and Will and Emma Laszlo; and sister, Mary (Chris) Blayden of Lancaster, PA.

To celebrate Jim’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3 at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 47 Syracuse St., Baldwinsville

Jim will be laid to rest in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in King Ferry, NY.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY & of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
