James "Jim" Hartnett

Jun 7, 1964 — Jul 10, 2026

James “Jim” Hartnett, 62, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Friday, at Upstate Community Hospital.

Born in Syracuse, Jim was a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, a community he was proud to call home throughout his life. He was a graduate of Bishop Ludden High School and later earned his degree from St. John Fisher University. Jim dedicated 22 years of service to the Onondaga County Water Authority before retiring in 2021, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, dependability, and the friendships he built along the way.

Jim found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed relaxing at camp and gathering with family and friends. Jim had many laughs and good times playing basketball, pitch, and golf and the camaraderie that came with it.

A devoted sports fan, Jim proudly cheered on the Buffalo Bills and Syracuse University athletics. He also loved to travel and looked forward each year to treasured traditions, including annual trips to Cape May with his family and memorable getaways to Lake Placid with his close friends. These vacations created countless cherished memories that will be remembered for years to come, especially those taken most recently with his wife and kids. He loved music and attended numerous concerts throughout the years.

Jim will be remembered for his warm smile, generous spirit, sense of humor, and the genuine friendships he cultivated throughout his life. His love for family, loyalty to friends, and appreciation for life's simple pleasures will remain an enduring example to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jim's memory will forever be treasured by his loving family, dear friends, former colleagues, and all whose lives were enriched by his presence.

Jim was predeceased by his father; James; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Marie Marzadri.

Surviving are his wife, Kris; son, Brian; daughter, Taryn; mother, Maureen; sister, Beth (Mark) Warholy; sister-in-laws, Kim (Neal) Cunningham, Jennifer (Marc) Cadin, Lisa Mineker, and Joanne Korrigan; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
