James R. Snyder, 68, of Camillus, passed away at home on Saturday. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, Jim was a graduate of West Genesee High School and earned his associate’s degree from OCC. He worked as an electrician for Carrier Corp. for 43 years and was a proud member of the Steelworkers Union.
Jim had a true love for music, the outdoors and adventure. He was an avid snowmobiler and also enjoyed motorcycle riding and boating. He especially loved spending time in his “garage mahal,” where he could tinker and work on projects. Known as a big jokester, Jim had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick with a laugh, bringing smiles to those around him. Above all, he treasured spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him his greatest joy.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James and June Snyder.
Surviving are his wife, Gail; sons, James (Jamie) of Liverpool, Christopher (Malea) of Fallbrook, CA, David (Melissa) McDowell of Syracuse, and Kreis McDowell of Camillus; nine grandchildren; sisters, Susan Sherrill of Camillus, Lorraine (Tom King) Phillips of Nokomis, FL, Julie (Nate) Willsey of Westvale, Mary (Jamie) Ritter of Gilbert, SC, Denise (Medley Small) Snyder of Spring Hill, TN, Nancy (Mike) Karpenko of Franklin, TN, and Maureen (Charlie) Hayes of Camillus; brother Matt (Melissa) Snyder of Camillus; and many nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Jim’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A memorial service will follow at the funeral home.
Jim will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
