Jane H. Gilmore

May 17, 1917 — May 14, 2011

Jane H. Gilmore passed away on May 14, 2011 three days shy of her 94th birthday. The daughter of John Parker Harley and Emily Riedel Harley, she was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. She also resided in Ottawa, Ohio; Camillus, New York; Sanford, North Carolina; and, most recently, Carolina Meadows, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Jane attended Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1938 with a B.A. degree in sociology. Jane and her husband, John, were charter members of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Camillus. She cherished her church and the many friendships she developed throughout the years. She was an avid bridge player, golfer, and reader. She also loved to travel, the fine arts, and spending time with friends and family. Jane was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, John A. Gilmore; son, John H. Gilmore; and sister, Eleanor Bennett. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce G. and William Warriner of Liverpool; son and daughter-in-law, James D. and Deborah Gilmore of Yorktown, Virginia; grandchildren, Amy (David) Furletti, Keri (Jim) Stewart and Kristen (Michael) Sergott; and great-grandchildren, Austin Honyoust, Matthew Furletti, Parker Sergott, and Tate Sergott. A celebration of Jane’s life will be conducted at Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill on Sunday, June 12 at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Carolina Meadows RRGF (Residents’ Remembrance and Gifts Fund), 100 Carolina Meadows, Attn. Vickie Dunlap, Chapel Hill, NC 27517. Please include a notation that the gifts be placed in the “RESTRICTED Jane Gilmore account.” Your gifts will be put toward the creation of a practice chipping/putting green in Jane’s memory. Local arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus.
