Janet Marie Smyth

Janet Marie Smyth, 90, of Camillus, passed away at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital on Sunday.

Born in Canton, PA, Janet spent a brief time living in Ithaca before making the Syracuse area her lifelong home. She was a graduate of Blodgett Vocational High School and devoted more than 30 years of dedicated service as an administrative assistant with the Onondaga County Planning Agency.

Janet found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed reading, solving word puzzles, creating crafts, and watching her favorite classic television shows. She especially loved attending live theater performances with family and friends, moments she treasured deeply. Janet was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse.

Above all, Janet’s greatest joy was her family. She cherished time spent with her loved ones and will be remembered for her gentle spirit, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, Patrick; son, Paddy; daughter, Lori Bohemier; parents, Lewis and Edith Hatherill; and sisters, Peggy Guadagno and Beverly Rubado.

Surviving are her son, Christopher (Janet) Smyth of Westvale; daughter, Ellen Hobbs of Camillus; grandchildren, Jay, Todd, Steve, Jodi, and Shay; great-grandchildren, Damien and Lennon; brother, Richard “Red” (Beverly) Hatherill of Kirkville; and several nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Janet’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.

Janet will be laid to rest in St. James Cemetery, Cazenovia.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
