John M. Antczak

July 8, 1946 — April 24, 2026

Camillus

John M. Antczak, 79, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

John’s parents were forced out of Poland into a labor camp during WWII. He was born in a post-war displaced persons camp in Regensburg, Germany. John and his family immigrated to the U.S. in 1949, beginning a new life in this country, for which they were always grateful. They eventually settled in the Syracuse area, where he spent the majority of his life.

John was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and earned his bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University. He began his professional career with Allied Chemical, later founded his own environmental consulting firm, JMA Consulting, and went on to serve the City of Syracuse and New York State.

John was an avid New York Times crossword enthusiast, rarely missing a puzzle. He enjoyed reading and all types of music, especially big band. John cherished his time living in Indian Lake and had a deep appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of the Adirondacks. He also loved the many animals, including Scottish Terriers, that he and his wife rescued over the years. Above all else, his greatest source of pride was his family.

John was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Helen Antczak; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa (Dennis) Debottis; and twin sister, Sophia Antczak.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Joan; daughters, Karen Antczak of Syracuse and Kristen (Patrick) Antczak-Collins of Guilford; son, David (Rebecca) of Bryn Mawr, PA; grandchildren, Matthew, Hannah, William, Edward, Sawyer, and Sarah; several nieces and nephews; and extended family in Australia and Canada.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse, P.O. Box 94, Liverpool, NY 13088 or at www.animalallianceofgreatersyracuse.org.
