Joseph John "JoJo" Goot

Joseph John “JoJo” Goot, 76, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, Joseph was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1968, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Parsons College. A hardworking and dedicated businessman, he owned and operated Goot Decorating, where he put his skills and love of working with his hands to good use. Through his business, Joseph became known as a talented handyman who was always willing to lend a helping hand and share his talents with others. He also enjoyed a successful career in the mortgage industry, working for more than 20 years with Syracuse Savings Bank and Gallinger Mortgage Company. Away from work, Joe treasured time spent on Owasco Lake, where he enjoyed watching the sunsets and relaxing around a campfire.

Joseph was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

Above all, Joseph cherished his family. He loved spending time with those closest to him, and his granddaughter held an especially precious place in his heart. He adored her and took immense pride in being her grandfather, finding great joy in the time they shared.

Joseph will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his practical skills, his generous willingness to help others, and, most importantly, the love he had for his family. He leaves behind many cherished memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Jan and Anna Gut.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Jane; son John (Renee); daughter, Jessica (Daniel) Gorman; granddaughter, Grace; sister, Teresa (Vincent) Smoral; beloved lap dog, Abbey; and several nieces.

To celebrate Joseph’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated, Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse.
