Obituary

Karen Marie (Frazer) Marko, 73, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday. She was a beloved wife, mother, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Karen was born on May 30, 1952, in Penn Yan to Edgar and Gwendolyn (Gabler) Frazer. She graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1970 and later from Onondaga Community College. Karen worked at Crouse Hospital in various administrative roles until retiring in 2006. After giving her life to Jesus Christ in 1983, she became a devoted member of Grace Assembly of God in Syracuse. There, she was active in the music program and small groups, forming lasting friendships and meeting her husband, Paul.

Karen’s first love was music, which she pursued upon arriving at OCC in 1970. Her favorite artists included Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, and Petula Clark. She also loved the outdoors, enjoying activities from softball to frisbee, spending hours at the park with her dogs, Maggie and Patches, and boating with Paul. Having grown up in the Finger Lakes, Karen often returned during the warmer months to visit friends, shop at the Windmill, and pick up bundles of Concord grapes while exploring the countryside. Later in life, she developed a passion for photography, especially bird photography, and leaves behind many beautifully framed images from that pursuit.

Karen is survived by her husband, Paul, of Syracuse; sister, Brenda (Frazer) Rowe, of Beloit, KS; and son, Dean (Alice) Kraushaar, of Tel Aviv, Israel. Karen was also cherished by the family she gained through her marriage to Paul: her stepsons, Paul and Joel Marko; and stepdaughter, Lori (Marko) Stafford and husband, Robert; along with several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren who reside in the greater Syracuse area.

A celebration of Karen's life in Christ will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Grace Assembly of God Church, 2515 W. Genesee St., Syracuse. A funeral service will follow.

Karen will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Assembly of God Church.
