Karl L. Steinacher, 82, of Jordan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday.
Born and raised in Austria, Karl immigrated to the United States as a young boy in the fourth grade. He was a graduate of C.W. Baker High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his military service, Karl completed 13 jumps as a paratrooper, a testament to his courage and dedication.
Following his service, Karl built a strong and dependable career as a wireman, working for General Electric and later for Crucible Steel, where he dedicated 11 years before retiring.
Karl was a longtime member of the Camillus Elks Lodge and a communicant of St. Augustine’s Church in Baldwinsville. He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially traveling, with Maine holding a special place in his heart, where he created many cherished memories with his family. He also loved cooking and, above all, spending time with those he loved most.
Karl will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his devotion to family, and the quiet strength he carried throughout his life.
Karl was predeceased by his first wife, Sandra Steinacher; and mother, Hermine Walter.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Cheney; son, Kurt (Holly) Steinacher; grandchildren, Emily and Jacob Steinacher; brothers-in-law, Donald and Bernard (Barbara) Race; and many other loving family members.
To celebrate Karl’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church, 7333 O’Brien Rd., Baldwinsville. A funeral Mass will follow at the church.
Karl will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Baldwinsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
