Kevin M. Gilligan, Esq.

Kevin M. Gilligan, Esq., 76, of LaFayette, passed away on Wednesday.

Born in Glens Falls, Kevin was raised in Corinth and Syracuse before making his home in LaFayette in 1994. He was a graduate of CBA High School in 1968 and received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Hobart College and his law degree from Syracuse University in 1979. Kevin was an attorney for 41 years, retiring in 2020 as senior partner at Costello, Cooney & Fearon PLLC. He was also the recipient of the U.S. Congressional Angels in Adoption Award.

Deeply committed to his community, Kevin served as president of the Onondaga County Planning Federation and as an Onondaga County legislator. He was also a member of the West End Republican Club, the Syracuse Polish Home, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

An avid golfer, Kevin enjoyed many rounds and friendships at Pompey Club. He was a communicant of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Syracuse and St. Joseph’s Church in LaFayette.

Kevin will be remembered for his dedication to public service, his involvement in the community, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life.

Kevin was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Joan.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Eileen; children, Adeline (Gary) Heferle, Benjamin, Louis, and Valentina; grandson, Nolan Heferle; brother, Stephen; a niece, and several nephews and cousins.

To celebrate Kevin’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, September 21, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse.

Kevin will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Syracuse.
