Linda Esgro, 82, of Solvay, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Syracuse, Linda was a proud graduate of Solvay High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Potsdam before dedicating over 20 years of her career to teaching at Solvay Middle School, where she touched countless young lives with her kindness and passion for education.
A communicant of St. Cecilia’s Church, Linda lived her faith through compassion and generosity. She loved cooking for family and friends, and her “open door” policy made her a trusted confidante to anyone in need of a listening ear and a cup of coffee. In her spare time, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, trivia, and games that kept her mind sharp and engaged.
Above all, Linda cherished her family. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy, and her legacy of love, warmth, and kindness will live on through them.
Linda was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; parents, Francis and Helen Swete; siblings, Shirley Orr, Margaret "Peggy" Demperio, and Donald, Francis "Buddy", and Robert Swete.
Surviving are her daughters, Stacey (Dan) Chilbert of Liverpool and Sarah Esgro of Brooklyn; son, Steven Esgro of Solvay; granddaughters, Madeline Chilbert, Jacqueline (David) Carroll, and Jillian Chilbert; grandson, Daniel Chilbert Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
To celebrate Linda’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
