Lindsey A. Bridge

Lindsey A. Bridge, 85, of Syracuse, died Feb. 20, 2005 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The son of Louis Bridge and Edith Kellogg, he was born in Syracuse on May 28, 1919. He lived in Clockville on a farm for 25 years until moving to the Camillus area. Lindsey was a 1941 graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a chemical engineer for Allied Signal Corp. for 33 years. An Army Air Corps veteran, he served as captain during World War II. Lindsey was a member of the Mens Garden Club since 1967, its Shutterbug (photography of plants, trees and flowers), recipient of the Master Gardener Award in 1984 and president in 1986. For years Lin was well-known for filling the large cast iron pots at his Church of the Bells Immanuel United Methodist Church with a multitude of brilliantly-colored tuberous begonias. He was a horticultural judge at the New York State Fair and for years worked with his good friend, Stanley Buckhout, at the Horticultural Building throughout the duration of the Fair each year. He was also a volunteer flower planter at Burnet Park Zoo. A member of Habitat for Humanity, Lin helped build 22 homes in Florida. He was also a member of the Immanuel United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees. Years ago, he enjoyed bowling at Raabs on a mixed league with his wife. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, the former Jeanette Britton; daughters, Carol (Don) King of McKinney, Tex. and Jeanne (Edward) Keplinger of Pompey; sons, Robert (Diane) Bridge of Fairfax, Va. and Jay W. Bridge of W. Palm Beach, Fla. and six grandchildren; David and Ellen King of McKinney, Tex., Michael and Mary Bridge of Fairfax Va. and Amanda and Jacob Keplinger of Pompey. Services were at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus, with Rev. Craig French officiating. Friends called at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneida.
