Lois Michalowski, 96, of Camillus, passed away Monday, December 7, 2009 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Rochester on Friday, April 4, 1913, she was the daughter of Benjamin Butler Betts and Irene Belle Hill Betts. After spending her early years in Rochester, she also lived in St. Petersburg, Florida before moving to the Syracuse area in the mid 1950s. Lois attended IBM Computer School in Albany. In 1965 she retired from Unity Mutual Life Insurance after more than 25 years. Lois traveled throughout the world, volunteered for the American Red Cross for many years and attended the anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day each year in Hawaii. Lois was predeceased by her brother, Donald Betts. Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Edward; brother, Edwin Jim Betts of Clifton, Texas; nieces, Janice Betts Turner of Meridian, Texas, JoAnn Betts Leverett of Farmington, New Mexico, Jeanie Betts Cosper of Clifton, Texas, Sandy Bramble of Memphis, New York and Marlyn Flinn of Las Vegas, Nevada; and nephew, Don Betts of Camillus. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus with Deacon Nick Alvaro officiating. Relatives and friends may call Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Lois will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
