Maria Romano, 91, passed away Saturday, surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy rooted in devotion, strength, and unwavering love. Born May 8, 1935 in Cervinara, Italy, she lived a full and meaningful life as a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and proud homemaker.
Maria was a mother first and foremost — a fierce and protective “mama bear” whose greatest purpose was caring for her family. Her love was steady, selfless, and strong. She poured her heart into her home, creating a place where everyone felt welcomed, safe, and deeply loved.
Maria’s most treasured title was “Nanna.” Nothing brought Maria more joy than her grandchildren. She adored every moment spent with them — celebrating milestones, sharing stories, and making memories that will live on in their hearts forever.
Maria was a master in the kitchen, known for meals that were as abundant as her love. No one ever left her table hungry — in fact, visitors were expected to eat. Whether it was Sunday dinner or a holiday gathering, she always prepared enough food to feed an army, and every dish was made with pride and care. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and the backdrop of countless cherished family moments.
Maria was a proud member of the Solvay Tigers A.C. and C.Y.C., a faithful communicant of St. Cecilia’s Church, and a devoted member of the Holy Rosary Society. Her faith and community were important parts of her life, guiding her with grace and strength.
Maria was predeceased by her husband, Raffaele; parents, Michael and Pasqualina Clemente; and brother, Antonio Clemente.
Surviving are her sons, Edward (Wendy) of Camillus, Michael (Rita) of Liverpool, and Joseph of Solvay; daughters, Sophia Lustrinelli of Syracuse, and Joanna (John) Daucher of Liverpool; sister, Antoinette (Mario) Tangredi of Solvay; sister-in-law, Nancy Clemente; grandchildren, Matthew, Bridget, Joseph and Michael Romano, Angela (Colin) Lynch, Ralph (Erin Davis) Romano, Annamaria (J.B. Jackson) Daucher, Christopher Daucher, Stephanie Broton, Vincent (Adriana) Lustrinelli, and Gino (Toni) Lustrinelli; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Lynch, Lilja Jackson, and Luciana Lustrinelli; and several nieces and nephews.
