Marion Marie Whipple

July 10, 1932 — May 27, 2026

Westvale

Marion Marie Whipple, 93, of Westvale, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Seneca Nursing Center & Rehabilitation in Waterloo, after a courageous journey with end-stage dementia.

Born and raised in Syracuse, Marion was a proud lifelong resident who spent more than 43 years in Westvale. She graduated with honors from Central High School, where she excelled in sports and proudly served as a member of the school’s Majorettes. In 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Patrick Robert Whipple, in California while he was stationed at Camp Pendleton with the U.S. Marine Corps before serving in the Korean War. Together, they built a loving marriage grounded in faith, family, and service to others.

Marion dedicated much of her life to her community and church. She served as President of the St. Anthony of Padua Mothers’ Club and was an active member of the Syracuse Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. A faithful communicant of Holy Family Church in Fairmount, Marion generously shared her time as a Eucharistic minister, lector, parish office assistant, and outreach volunteer. She also lovingly supported her late husband, Deacon Patrick Robert Whipple, in his ministry, including assisting with Pre-Cana classes for engaged couples preparing for marriage.

Professionally, Marion enjoyed a long and respected career in office management and administration. She worked for many years at Dunk & Bright Furniture before serving as senior administrative assistant to the executive director and director of nursing at Community General Hospital.

Marion found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid reader with a special love for English history, enjoyed gardening, and later in life took delight in collecting dolls. More than anything, she treasured time spent with her family, who were the center of her world.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick Robert Whipple; parents, Dora and Joseph Hadley; brother, Charles; sisters, Eva, Dora, and Helen; granddaughter, Rachel Carr; and great-grandson, Zechariah Brown, Jr.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Russ) Carr of Skaneateles, and Colleen Robinson of Havertown, PA; and son, Michael Whipple of Williamsburg, VA. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Tracie (Jason) McCarthy of Camillus, Mollie Pierce of Skaneateles, Olivia Robinson of Havertown, PA, Samantha (Jay) Peters of Drexel Hill, PA, Ashley Whipple of Germany, and Aleisha Whipple of Chester, VA. Marion was additionally blessed with five great-grandchildren, Tyler Pierce, Caden and Alex McCarthy, Jordan Michael Brown, and Wren Peters. She also leaves behind two great-great-grandchildren, Apollo and Malakai Pierce; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To celebrate Marion’s life, calling hours will take place Tuesday, June 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

An additional calling hour will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2026, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Drive, Syracuse, prior to the funeral Mass at 10 a.m.

Marion will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
