Mary Alice Wylie, 80, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at home on Monday.
Born on Long Island, Mary Alice moved to the Syracuse area in 1959, where she built a life defined by compassion, dedication, and service to others. She graduated from the Convent School in 1963 before pursuing her calling in nursing, earning her diploma from St. Mary's School of Nursing in 1966.
Mary Alice devoted her career to caring for others as a registered nurse, serving patients with exceptional skill and kindness in a variety of healthcare settings. She later transitioned into medical review, where she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield and subsequently for the New York State Department of Health. She retired in 2006 after many years of dedicated service.
Outside of her professional life, Mary Alice embraced every opportunity to enjoy life and the people she loved. An avid golfer, she was a longtime member of Bellevue Country Club and Indian River Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida, where she treasured both the game and the friendships she made. She also enjoyed traveling, creating lasting memories through her many adventures.
A devoted communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Mary Alice's faith was an important part of her life and guided her compassionate spirit. Even in retirement, she continued to give back to her community by visiting with cancer survivors throughout Onondaga County, offering comfort, encouragement, and companionship to those facing difficult times.
Mary Alice will be remembered for her warm heart, quiet strength, unwavering generosity, and the genuine care she showed to everyone she encountered. Her kindness touched countless lives, and her legacy of compassion will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
Mary Alice was predeceased by her parents, Alice and Jack Kelleher; and niece, Shannon Lynch.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, John; son, Michael (Michelle) Wylie of Ellington, CT; daughter, Kristine (Josh) DeWaters of Camillus; grandchildren, Allison (Steven) Duguay, Abigail Wylie, and Logan DeWaters; great-grandson, Michael Duguay; brothers, Jack (Kathie), Bill (Susan), and Jerry (Julie) Kelleher; sister, Susan Kelleher-Lynch; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to her devoted home health aides, Sharon Wells, Mary Jo Konlioski, Karen Hamm, Jessica Hamm, and Elizabeth Hamm, for their exceptional care, compassion, and friendship. They also wish to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jeffrey Kirshner and Samantha Burke, NP, and the dedicated staff of Hematology-Oncology Associates for the outstanding care and support they provided over the past 46 years.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Camillus.
Mary Alice will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
