Mary E. Breithaupt, 95, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at home. Born in Celina, Ohio, she later made Central New York her home, living in DeWitt for more than 60 years, where she built a life rooted in family, education, and service to her community.
Mary earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Syracuse University and went on to dedicate 20 years of her career as an elementary school teacher with the Chittenango School District. Known for her patience, warmth, and commitment to her students, she touched the lives of countless children and families throughout her years in the classroom.
Outside of her professional life, Mary found great joy in gardening and sewing, pursuits that reflected her creativity and care for others. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness and pride.
The family would also like to extend a very special thank you to a dear friend who lovingly and patiently walked this journey with Mary. Her joyous attitude and nurturing ways made her truly “part of the family.”
Mary was predeceased by her husband, James; and parents, Hugo and Lorena Weinman.
Surviving are her daughter, Dawn (Mark Gonzalez) Breithaupt of Camillus; sons, David (Rhoda) Breithaupt of DeWitt and Douglas (Donna) Breithaupt of Nahant, MA; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
There will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105, or to the Food Bank of CNY, 7066 Interstate Island Rd., Syracuse, NY 13209.
