Mary Husak Vaga

January 10, 1934 — May 4, 2005

Mary Vaga, 71, formerly of Camillus, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at University Hospital. Born in Syracuse on January 10, 1934, she was the daughter of Peter and Theodosia Husak. She lived in East Syracuse until moving to Camillus in 1954. Mary was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, former member of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Mother's Club and member of the Apostleship of Prayer. She was formerly employed by Vagas Meat Market, J.B. Carncross, J.C. Penney and Bryant & Stratton. Mary and her husband, Walter S. Vaga, were married at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church on August 21, 1954. Mary enjoyed working in her flower gardens, particularly her rock garden, reading, taking trips to the casino and Ukrainian cooking. She also loved being with friends and family. Surviving in addition to her husband of 50 years are her daughters, Kim (Bill) MacClurg of Cary, North Carolina, Vicki (Gil) Schnorr and Krista (Greg) Kenna, both of Camillus; sons, Walter (Theresa) Vaga of Syracuse, Steve (Colleen) Vaga of Camillus and Michael Vaga of Baldwinsville; sister, Helen Libera of Westvale; brother, Johnny Husak of East Syracuse and grandchildren, Steven, David, Zachary, Andrew, Timothy and Gregory Vaga, Grace and Garrett Schnorr, Madeline MacClurg and Ellie Kenna. Mary is also predeceased by her granddaughters, Lisa Vaga and Daisy Kenna. Services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2005 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Syracuse, where a Divine Liturgy for the Deceased will be celebrated. Friends may call Sunday, May 8, 2005 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Panakhyda services will be at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners, New York. Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial/Honor Program FH, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St, P.O.
