Mary R. Rao, 86, a beloved lifetime member of the Syracuse community, passed away peacefully on Sunday at Upstate Community Hospital. Mary found joy in cooking, earning her the title of chef extraordinaire. Beyond the kitchen, she showcased her remarkable talent for reupholstering, transforming the ordinary into extraordinary works of art. With her self-taught expertise in home improvement, Mary continuously amazed those fortunate enough to witness her projects unfold. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, providing an essential service for those in need. Additionally, Mary was an esteemed member of the Camillus Senior Center. In her leisure time, she found great pleasure in visiting the Turning Stone Casino with her friends. However, Mary’s greatest joy came from spending cherished moments with her family, especially her adored grandchildren. She will be forever remembered as a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Vincent; first son, Michael; parents, Robert and Mary White; sister, Anita Armstrong; and brother, Charles White.
Surviving are her daughters, Sue Wolfe and Kathleen (Ted) Ryan, both of Syracuse; grandchildren, Holly (Dwayne), Jacob (Keisha), and Justin; great-grandchildren, Lloyd Jr., Michael, Gabriella, and Gianna; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Rao; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be private.
Mary will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, 300 Burt St., Syracuse, NY 13202.
