Michael Basto

Michael Basto, 92, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013 at VA Medical Center. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, he was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired in 1978 from Allied Chemical. Michael enjoyed playing cards and was an avid sports fan. Michael was predeceased by his wife, Arline, in 1953; brothers, Dominick and Eugene; and sisters, Katherine D'Onofrio and Mary Grassi. Surviving are his daughters, Sharon Heath of East Syracuse, Michaeline “Mickey” Basto, of DeWitt and Barbara “Bobbi” (Christopher) Heckman of Mattydale; sister, Pauline Savage of Syracuse; grandsons, Kyle Heath and Zachary Heckman; great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Marie; close family friend, Joseph Hartung, with whom Mike shared a special bond; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, July 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Michael will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
