Michael A. Said, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, leaving behind a legacy of faith in Jesus Christ, intellect, and devotion to family and community.
Born on May 21, 1941, in Port Said, Egypt, Michael was raised with a deep appreciation for education, family, and perseverance. He went on to attend Ain Shams University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics—a discipline that reflected both his sharp mind and his methodical approach to life.
Michael later made his home in New York, where he built a life grounded in hard work and strong Christian values. He was a passionate enthusiast of classic foreign automobiles and could often be found around town on a warm summer evening driving one of his old British convertibles. Michael also deeply loved gardening and cooking. He was often referred to as “The Chef” by friends and family.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Michael was a devoted member of the Coptic Orthodox Church. His commitment to his church community was unwavering, and he played a meaningful role in aiding the establishment and construction of several churches in both New York State and Egypt. His contributions helped create places of worship and fellowship that will serve generations to come.
Michael will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, wisdom, and generosity. He was a steady and guiding presence to those who knew and loved him, always willing to lend support or share insight.
Above all, Michael cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud uncle whose love and guidance shaped the lives of those closest to him. His legacy lives on through his family, his faith, and the many lives he touched.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Awad Said Girguis and Katrina Ateya Hanna; sister, Dr. Mary Awad Said; and brothers, Said Awad Said and Girguis Awad Said.
Surviving are his wife, Mona G. Said of Camillus; son, Mark A. Said of Camillus; daughter, Christine Said of Apex, NC; sister, Aziza Awad Said of Cairo, Egypt; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
