Randy Lee Geiger

Randy L. Geiger, 76, of Geddes, passed away peacefully on Monday, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Born the luckiest lad on March 17, 1949, Randy was a 1967 West Genesee High School graduate where he was known as “Golden Toe” for his impressive soccer skills on the varsity team. He served six years with the NYS Army National Guard before spending 24 years with GTE Service Corporation. He later found great joy driving a school bus for 20 years with the Solvay Union Free School District and also worked as a limousine driver throughout New York State.

Randy enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He played softball in a league with his father at Reed Webster Park, built intricate ships in bottles, was a devoted season ticket holder for Syracuse sports, and remained an avid Yankees fan right up until the eve of his passing. Randy also loved driving his 1937 Ford, proudly earning multiple awards for his classic car. In recent years, his greatest joy came from building magnificent sandcastles at the Delaware seashore for his grandchildren and cheering them on as their biggest supporter at sports games.

With deepest gratitude, the family thanks Dr. Ian Daly; Heather, RN; and Kaylin Brainerd, DNP, of FamilyCare Medical Group, P.C., as well as the ICU team at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus—especially Leah and Hailey, whom Randy adored during his final hours—for their compassionate care.

Our “Boompa” was a young-hearted, fun-loving man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met, especially his family. You are forever in our hearts. We love you so much, Boompa! “…Because of the wonderful things he does.”

Randy was predeceased by his parents Albert and Margaret Geiger.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Kathleen (Kuppel) Geiger; children, Heather (David) Amidon, Ryan Geiger, and Lindsey (John) DiFlorio, all of Syracuse. He was the proud Boompa to Aiden and Alexander Amidon, and Sylvia and Clara DiFlorio, each best known to him as Y, Z, I and S.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
