Raymond E. Scouten, 90, of Camillus, passed away peacefully at home on Monday. A lifelong resident of the Syracuse and Camillus area, he proudly served his country and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ray dedicated his entire career to the wholesale food industry, stepping into a supervisory role at just 21 years old. Throughout his professional life, he earned the admiration and respect of colleagues and peers alike. Ray retired in 1997. A devoted member and former president of the Elbridge Rod and Gun Club, he formed many lasting friendships there. In retirement, Ray remained actively involved, generously giving his time to support the club in numerous ways, including scheduling and cooking for police agencies during their firearms training sessions.

Ray cherished time spent with his family, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. His warmth, dedication, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ray was predeceased by his four sisters; and one brother.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 68 years, Fran; daughters, Terry (Mark) Paterniti of Huntersville, NC, and Sandra (Steve) Bayzik of Indian Trail, NC; sons, Tim (Mary Ellen "Mimi") of Fulton and Bob of Martville; grandchildren, Shane, Sarah, Tim, Sabrina, and Dylan; six great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Janet Coe of Fairmount; brother, Harry "Butch" of Baldwinsville; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Hospice of Central New York and of the Finger Lakes, especially Keziah, for the loving care and compassion shown to Ray during his final days.

To celebrate Ray’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral service will follow at the funeral home.

Ray will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY & of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to the Elbridge Rod & Gun Club, 6275 Laird Rd., Jordan, NY 13080.
