Richard E. “Dick” Blanchard, 77, of Solvay, passed away Sunday at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born to Kenneth and Antoinette Blanchard on December 1, 1946, his life journey was marked by his unwavering commitment to his passions and his profound devotion to those he held dear. A graduate of Chittenango High School, Dick embarked on a path of service and valor, proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. His dedication to his country was unwavering, a testament to his sense of duty and honor.
Beyond his military service, Dick found solace and inspiration in his artistry. As an artist, his creativity knew no bounds, and his works reflected his vibrant spirit and unique perspective. His artistic endeavors illuminated the world, leaving an indelible impression on all who had the privilege of experiencing his creations. Dick was also an avid Yankees fan. His enthusiasm for the team was infectious, adding a special zest to his conversations and gatherings. However, amidst his love for art and sports, Dick’s heart was centered around his family. He cherished moments spent with loved ones, relishing in the simple pleasure of day trips, creating cherished memories that will endure through generations.
Dick was predeceased by his parents; brother, Kenneth Jr.; great-granddaughter, Amelia Farella; and parents-in-law, Aldo and Anna Salvagni.
Surviving are his loving wife of 55 years, Donna of Solvay; son, Doni Blanchard of Cortland; daughter, Jana Kilburn of Solvay; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, John of Idaho; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In honor of Dick’s remarkable life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, December 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 14, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Dick will be laid to rest in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
