Richard W. “Dick” Wilson, 95, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Saturday at his home.
Born in Oswego, Richard grew up on Lake Ontario, where, alongside his father, he developed a lifelong love and appreciation for the outdoors. As a young man, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping, skills he used to help provide food for their family. Richard later moved to Syracuse, where he met his wife, Hedwig, on a blind date. They eventually settled in Camillus in 1959, where they made their home and raised their family.
Richard was a US Army combat veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by Niagara Mohawk for 42 years as an underground electric foreman before retiring in 1992.
Richard was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Memphis and lived his life with an unwavering devotion to God, his family, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he cherished the time he spent with those he loved.
Richard also loved boating and camping, making many wonderful memories in the Adirondacks, Lake Ontario, and Skaneateles Lake. He had a special fondness for ballroom dancing and enjoyed attending dances whenever he could. He was also a devoted fan of the Lawrence Welk Show and never missed an episode.
Richard was predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou DeStevens; and brother, Jack Wilson.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Hedwig; sons, David (Teri) and Daniel (Annmarie), both of Camillus; daughter, Nina Becerra of Camillus; grandchildren, Luke, Timothy, Jesse, Richelle, and Rene; sisters, June Morton of Manlius and Nancy Wilson of Liverpool; and several nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Richard’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
