Marcellus

Robert F. Ballard, 81, of Marcellus, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday.

A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, Robert was a graduate of West Genesee High School and later earned his associate’s degree from Onondaga Community College. He was honored to be one of the original designers of the college's first class ring, a distinction he carried with pride throughout his life.

Robert dedicated more than 32 years of service to the State of New York as a state boiler inspector, retiring in 1996. Prior to his state service, he was employed by Milton Supply.

An outdoorsman at heart, Robert enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime member of the Otisco Lake Rod & Gun Club. He also found great enjoyment riding his motorcycles, spending time at the bowling alley, and making regular trips to the casino. Those who knew him know "The casinos will miss him," a testament to the many friendships and memories he made there over the years.

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Claude and Regina Ballard; stepfather, John Adams; and sisters, Vicki and Penny.

Surviving are his daughters, Michele (George) Molchanoff of Cleveland, Ann Marie (Doug Volcko) Ballard of Marcellus, and Cindy (David) Massett of Rome; son, Paul of Cortland; grandchildren, Shaun (Nicole), Katrina (Jacob Bassage), Madelyn, and Brandon; brother, Mark (Linda) of Thornton, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

To celebrate Robert’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, June 28, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A memorial service will follow in the funeral home.
