Robert John “Bob” Schattner, 84, of Skaneateles, passed away Monday at Upstate Community Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends. Employed by Niagara Mohawk Power, he was a linesman and supervisor for over 30 years. After his retirement, Bob worked in the family business at Purcell’s Paints where he loved treating customers like family. He enjoyed a simple life, finding moments most fulfilling at his grandchildren’s many events, being the "boat tour guide" on Skaneateles Lake, fishing, and golfing with NiMo friends. Bob cherished the mindful time at the lake with family, friends, and his cat, Sunshine. He thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his neighbors on Shady Bend Lane, especially the Mayos and Hempsons.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Nancy; grandson, Tyler Kobuszewski; parents, Harold and Grace Schattner; and stepchildren, Rich Purcell and Kathy (Miles) Merluzzi.
Surviving are his daughter, Kathleen (Frank) Kobuszewski of Camillus; sons, Robert of Richmond, VA, Michael (Martha) of Syracuse, and Steven (Christine) of Concord, NC; sister, Carol Schattner of Syracuse; stepchildren, Lynn (Anthony) Marinelli, Mary Purcell, Steve Purcell, John (Helen) Purcell, Thomas (Joanne) Purcell, and Susan (Ziva) Popov; brother-in-law, David Campbell; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Campbell. Also surviving are the ones who made him most proud, 28 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
To honor his incredible soul, relatives and friends may call Thursday, April 13 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 10 W. Austin St., Skaneateles.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. in the church.
