Ronald C. Messina, 88, of Syracuse, passed away Friday at home. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. A Nottingham High School graduate, Ronald was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving eight years during the Korean War era. He spent many years as a food broker for Syracuse Merchandisers before becoming owner of the Lakeland Diner for 25 years, retiring in 2001. Ronald loved music and spent a lot of time boating on the CNY rivers. He loved spending time with his family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ronald was predeceased by his wife, Sharon; parents, Frank and Almirinda Messina; sister, Rosalie Potter; and brothers, Francis Chase and David Messina.
Surviving are his son, John David (Edie); daughter, DorieLyn (Rick Ivanchak) Messina; grandchildren, Michaela (Chad Ledford) Messina, Allison (Robert Wolfley) Ramirez, and Logan (Leila Pellegrino) Messina; great-grandchildren, Isabella, Noah, Harlow, and Luke; sisters, Geraldine (Archie) Smith, Doris Messina, and Charlotte (Gordon) Goodison; brother, Vincent (Libby) Messina; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, January 2, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
Services will be private.
