Rosemary Keogh Carr

April 14, 1940 — May 22, 2026

Camillus

Rosemary Keogh Carr, 86, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Friday at Iroquois Nursing Home with her family by her side.

Rosemary was born and raised in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx, surrounded by her extended family. Later, her family moved to Chicago, where she graduated high school from the Academy of Our Lady in 1956. She returned to New York to attend Marymount College. It was during her college years, while enjoying a weekend visit to Syracuse with her future sister-in-law, that she met Peter Carr. Immediately following her graduation, the couple married and settled in Orchard Village in Camillus, where they built a beautiful life and raised five children. Rosemary retired from Le Moyne College in 2002, where she served as the administrative assistant to the president for 20 years.

Rosemary was the steady anchor of her family. She guided her children with sound advice, boundless love, and a wonderful sense of humor. Even in difficult times, she brought laughter and light to those around her.

Rosemary was an active communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Over the years, she became involved in Pre Cana, sang in the funeral choir, and was a lector. Known for her generous heart, her home was a sanctuary for her family; it was not unusual for an aunt, grandparent, or cousins to be welcomed in for an extended stay.

As a child living in the Bronx, Rosemary spent many afternoons with her parents at the Polo Grounds where she would attend New York Giants games. With the encouragement of her son Timothy, she became an avid New York Mets fan and suffered the consequences. Proud of her Irish heritage, Rosemary participated in Project Children and embraced all things Irish. She possessed a lifelong passion for learning, reading about history and politics, taking classes at OCC and Le Moyne College just for fun, and volunteering at the Maxwell Public Library. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her dear friends playing bridge, tennis and golf or attending the Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series and Syracuse Stage.

Rosemary was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Peter in 2014; daughter, Mary Elizabeth in 2017; daughter-in-law, Lisa; parents, Thomas and Mary Keogh; brother, Thomas (Maria Rita) Keogh; and sister, Constance Keogh.

Surviving are her children, Peter V. (Theresa) of Burnt Hills, Timothy K. (Mary Downes) of Port Washington, Margaret C. (David) Everett of Old Chatham, and Catherine C. (Kevin) Mahoney of Onondaga Hill; son-in-law, Robert Fitz of Lititz, PA; grandchildren, Michael and Timothy Fitz, Patrick (Kate), Nora (Steven), Rose (Jordan Duffy) and Cormac Carr, James, Killian (Dylan) and Emma Carr, Brendan, Catherine and Owen Everett, and Conor, Alice, Patrick and Rosemary Mahoney; sisters-in-law, Judith and Suzanne Carr; brother-in-law, Robert Carr; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
