Russell M. Davis

Russell M. Davis, 89, of Solvay, passed away Monday, June 8, 2009 at Sunnyside Care Center. Born in Syracuse on Tuesday, April 6, 1920, he was the son of James Arthur Davis and Georgia Mae Russell Davis. He spent his early years in Syracuse and lived in Camillus, Manlius, Cleveland and Lakeland, Florida before moving to Solvay seven years ago. An Army veteran of World War II, Russell served as a tank commander in the 10th Armored Division and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion and life member of the Battle of the Bulge Organization. Russell retired in 1981 from the US Postal Service in Manlius after 19 years. He was also previously employed by Boss Linco Trucking, A&P Trucking and Atlantic Richfield Trucking. He belonged to several square dance organizations in Central New York and Lakeland, Florida. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a life member of the American Rifle Association and Rod & Gun Club in Manlius. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Surviving are his wife of 68 years, the former Mary Jane Hart; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Larine of Syracuse; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Robert Doss of Chittenango; brother, James A. Davis of Constantia; grandchildren, Phillip (Heather) Davis of Salem, Massachusetts, Colleen (Ben) Price of DeWitt, Michael Davis of Orlando, Florida, Robert M. Doss of Chittenango and LeAnn Kay of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; great- grandchildren, Carrie Kay, Ryan Diggs, Katelyn, Jacob and Zachary Price, Kirsten and Lindsay Davis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Private burial will be at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, Camillus. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 6390 Fly Rd., East Syracuse, NY 13057.
