Shirley M. (Hummell) Bosell, 87, a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 4 at home with peace, grace, and dignity. She was surrounded by her loving family and was celebrated with fireworks! Shirley was grateful to remain in the home she loved through the care of her children, Hospice (a special thank you to Mallory for providing her with pampering spa days), and her devoted and compassion-filled caregiver, Becky Ellis, who is affectionately referred to as a sister/cousin. A lifelong resident of Syracuse, she was born to Joseph and Florence Hummell, on October 3, 1936, the seventh of nine children. She was married to the love of her life, Stanley Bosell, for 33 years before his passing in 1990.
Shirley was cherished by many for her exuberant and friendly nature, her boundless kindness, and her remarkable ability to make others feel seen, known, and loved. She had the gift of hospitality, and her home was known as the family gathering spot to receive food, hugs, laughter, and cheer for SU basketball. Outside the home, Shirley could often be found enjoying a Blake Shelton concert or spending time at the bingo hall.
Shirley was preceded by her husband, Stanley; and siblings, Joseph, John, Helen, Dolores, Florence, Eddie, and Doris.
Surviving are her children, Karen (Jeff Foster) Duffy, Mark, Lori (Colin) Hutcheon, Kim (David) Moro, and Amy (Gary Bianchi) Bosell. They were her greatest source of joy and reason for living and gifted her with 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sole-surviving sibling and beloved brother, James (Marcia) Hummell; sister-in-law, Nancy Winslow; and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley will always be remembered for her boundless love and unwavering encouragement, which touched our hearts profoundly. The honor of pallbearer is bestowed upon her grandsons.
To celebrate Shirley’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Onondaga Valley Cemetery, Nedrow.
