Steven Keeler

Steven Keeler, 72, of Marcellus, passed away Thursday at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Orange, NJ, Steve moved with his family to Camillus in 1965, where he would make his home and become a longtime member of the community. He was a 1972 graduate of West Genesee High School and continued his education at Syracuse University, where he earned his master’s degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Steve dedicated more than 30 years of his professional life to Cayuga Community College, where he served as a professor and Division Chair. He also enjoyed a long career working for many years at Syracuse New Channels.

A man of many interests and talents, Steve had a true appreciation for the world around him. He enjoyed photography and birdwatching and was a licensed drone pilot, combining his love of technology, nature, and capturing special moments from a unique perspective. He also enjoyed cooking and took pleasure in preparing and sharing good food with family and friends.

While Steve took great pride in his career and many interests, his greatest joy came from the people he loved. He treasured time spent with his family and friends, and will be remembered for the memories, laughter, and love he shared with those closest to him.

Steven was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lucille Keeler.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Carole; son, Benjamin of Marcellus; daughter, Rebecca Keeler of Marcellus; sister, Kathy Keeler of Camillus; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To celebrate Steven’s life, relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A memorial service will follow at the funeral home.

Burial will be private.
