Susan McGough

Fairmount

Susan Cairns McGough, 96, of Fairmount, passed away Friday at home. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, she moved to the Syracuse area in 1957. Susan was a 1945 graduate of West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Girls and attended Haverford College. She was employed as a library clerk at Onondaga Central Library, retiring in 2009. Previously, in the late 1970s, she was the manager at Fabric Tree.

A communicant of Holy Family Church for 66 years, Susan was a Eucharistic minister and religious education teacher for 14 years. She also held many positions with the Altar & Rosary Society, including president, and was a member of the Adoration Society. Susan volunteered with the Jail Ministry of Onondaga County with her husband, Tom. Together, they were also original shareholders in the construction of Bishop Ludden High School. She enjoyed cooking and won culinary awards at the NYS Fair and Post Standard.

Susan was predeceased by her husband, Thomas in 1980; son, Thomas in 2009; parents, Elizabeth and John Cairns; and sisters, Elizabeth (William) Bell and Theresa Donovan.

Surviving are her daughters, MarySusan McGough of Fairmount, Elizabeth (Scott) MacKenzie of Baldwinsville and Margaret (John) Seiter of Syracuse; sons, John (Helen) of North Syracuse, Peter (Phillip Ramus) of New York City, and Timothy (Grace) of Prince Frederick, MD; daughter-in-law, Charlene McGough of North Syracuse; grandchildren, Lucas, Joshua (Joanna), and Paul (Samantha Battle) McGough, Eve Seiter, Cassandra (Leigh Kellogg) McGough, Matthew, MacKenzie and Madison McGough, Connie (Chris) Paventy and Stephanie (Collin) Firenze; great-grandchildren, Skylar, Roman, Junie, Sophia, Silvio, Louis, Allysa and Uliana; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, September 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 14 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.

Susan will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Family School, 130 Chapel Dr., Syracuse, NY 13219.
