Susan Marie Shannon, 75, of Camillus, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Upstate University Hospital.

A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, Susan was a proud 1969 graduate of Nottingham High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY Fredonia, beginning a lifelong commitment to teaching and service. Susan dedicated 37 years as an educator in the LaFayette School District, retiring in 2010 after positively impacting generations of students.

Even in retirement, Susan remained deeply involved in her community. She served as vice president of the Octagon House, worked as a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center, and was a dedicated poll worker for the Board of Elections.

Susan enjoyed traveling and was known for her generous spirit, always willing to help anyone in need. Above all else, she was devoted to her family and made it her mission to ensure they were loved and supported. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and her beloved grand-dogs, who brought her endless joy.

Susan will be remembered for her kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for her family and community.

Susan was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Wrobbel; and sisters, Marianne Wrobbel and Barbara (Richard) Peck.

Surviving are her sons, Douglas, Michael (Angie Beauchene), and Patrick (Kelley); significant other, Richard Rodefeld; grandchildren, Julia and Connor Shannon, Claudia Dabney, and Jada Wilson; siblings, Edward (Cindy) Wrobbel, Kathleen Toucher, Diane Wrobbel, and Patricia (Robert Bloodgood) Wrobbel; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To celebrate Susan’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday, February 9, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Volunteers of America, Operation Backpack, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, VA 22314, or to The Wilcox Octagon House Museum, 4600 W. Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13219.
