Camillus

Sylvia E. (Root) Cacciotti, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday. Born on March 8, 1942, in Trumansburg, NY, she was the beloved daughter of Carl and Elsie Root. Sylvia spent her formative years in Ithaca, NY, graduating from Ithaca High School in 1960 and the Rochester Business Institute in 1961. She dedicated over three decades of her life as an office manager at Cornell Laundry, retiring in 2010. Following retirement, she relocated to Camillus to be closer to family, where she continued her professional journey as the office manager at Artistry in Wood of Syracuse until her second retirement in 2019.

Sylvia was a vibrant soul who embraced a diverse range of activities, from line dancing to West and East Coast swing dancing, and even the occasional tap dance lesson at the Jewish Community Center in DeWitt. Her extensive circle of friends from Ithaca, Elmira, Johnson City, Camillus, Australia, and Syracuse ensured her social calendar remained full year-round. Sylvia was a die-hard Buffalo Bills and SU men’s basketball fan and a huge West Genesee High School Marching Band supporter. Her passions also extended to her four grandchildren, whom she devotedly supported in their varied interests and activities. Sylvia was a true road warrior, driving long distances, through all kinds of weather, to catch a musical performance, dance recital, football game, and sometimes for just a visit with family. Sylvia, also fondly known as "GiGi" by her great-grandchildren, had an unwavering enthusiasm for shopping, ensuring her outfits were always impeccably coordinated from head to toe. It is rumored that she never wore the same ensemble twice!

Renowned for her leisurely approach to dining, some assumed Sylvia was just a relaxed eater; in reality, she was savoring every bite to the fullest, just as she treasured and enjoyed her amazing life! As the quintessential independent social butterfly, she cherished the moments spent with her beloved family and friends, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Sylvia's absence leaves a profound void in the lives of those she touched, her memory forever cherished in the hearts of many.

Sylvia is predeceased by her precious calico cat, Sophie; and her parents, Carl and Elsie Root.

Surviving are her son, Bryan (Tracy) of Buffalo; daughter, Andrea “Missy” (Gregory) McCartney of Camillus; beloved grandchildren, Meghan (Timothy) Moran, Michael (Ieva) McCartney, Bryan “Alex" Cacciotti, and Nicholas Cacciotti; great-grandchildren, Mason and Holly Moran; and sister, Nancy (Gary) Westfall of Freeville.

To celebrate Sylvia’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. A memorial service to honor Sylvia will immediately follow at the funeral home.

Private burial will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
