Thomas James Murphy Sr.

February 16, 1925 — April 13, 2021

Thomas James Murphy Sr., 96, of Camillus, passed away in his home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. He was a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area. Thomas was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy and Syracuse University and pursued a career in education. Thomas loved literature, music, movies, painting, golf and always learning something new.

A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, he will be remembered for his kindness, playfulness, brightness of spirit, generosity and wonderful sense of humor.

Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 2020.

Surviving are his son, Thomas Murphy Jr. of Camillus; daughter, Rita (Edward Havard) Murphy of Charlotte, VT; and grandson, Liam.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, April 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Face coverings are required.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 21 at noon in St. Joseph’s Church, 5600 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Thomas will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Assumption Church Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, 808 N. Salina St., Syracuse, NY 13208.
