Thomas Harrigan O’Brien, 83, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. He was the loving son of Maurice F. and Marian F. (Harrigan) O’Brien. A graduate of St. Anthony’s High School and SUNY Cortland, he was a dedicated and caring teacher of social studies and history at Liverpool Central School District and St. Ann’s School.
Tom was a proud Irishman who, with his loving wife Sandra, enjoyed beautiful trips to Ireland, the land of his heritage. Together, they also loved visiting the Adirondacks in autumn. His favorite sports teams were the Yankees, Notre Dame, and Syracuse University.
Tom shall be dearly missed.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife, the former Sandra Giamartino; his parents; and brothers, John D. and Richard R. O’Brien.
Surviving are his sister-in-law, Ann Giamartino; brothers-in-law, John and David F. Giamartino; several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and cousins.
To celebrate Tom’s life, relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 127 Chapel Dr., Syracuse.
Tom will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
