Victor Dean Raab, 94, of Camillus, passed away Saturday at Onondaga Center.
A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, Victor was a graduate of Camillus High School and continued his education at Central City Business Institute (CCBI). He dedicated 38 years of service to Crucible Steel in Solvay, where he worked as a production planner until his retirement in 1993.
Music was one of Victor's greatest passions and remained an important part of his life for many decades. A talented pianist and organist, he studied piano under Claude Case and pipe organ under Doris Nobles Robinson. His musical journey began at an early age, and by just 16 years old, he was already serving as a substitute church organist. Throughout his life, Victor generously shared his musical talents as an organist and choir director at several area churches, including Camillus First United Methodist Church, Frieden's United Church, Solvay United Methodist Church and Elbridge Community Church. His dedication to church music enriched countless worship services and touched the lives of many congregations.
Beyond his love of music, Victor was a voracious reader with a lifelong appreciation for books and learning. He was a devoted patron of Maxwell Memorial Library, beginning in 1942, maintaining a connection to the library that spanned more than eight decades. Victor also had a keen interest in antiques and enjoyed attending antique shows, often traveling out of town to explore different exhibitions and discover unique treasures.
Victor was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Raab; brothers, Paul Raab, Rudolph Raab, and Robert (Lee) Raab; sister, Adele (Frederick) Daniels; and niece, Carolyn Jean (Thomas) LaRose.
Surviving are his nieces and nephews, Eric (Alberta) Raab, Phyllis (Ronald) Muir, Philip Raab and Karen Daniels Crego; great-nieces and great-nephews, Stuart LaRose, Danielle LaRose, Jonathon (Jaclyn) Raab and Robert Crego; great-great-nephew, Jordan LaRose; and cousin, Alice Raab Carey.
Graveside services will be private.
Victor will be laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camillus First United Methodist Church, 12 Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031 or to the Maxwell Memorial Library, 14 Genesee St., Camillus, NY 13031.
