Virginia Ann Nelk, 87, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday at Upstate Community Hospital.
A lifelong resident of the Syracuse area, Virginia was a graduate of Porter High School. She was a faithful and longtime member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, where she generously shared her time and talents—especially in the kitchen.
Virginia’s love for baking shone brightly during church coffee hours, where her homemade treats brought comfort and joy to all. An avid and truly gifted baker, she was known for sharing her creations with others, always offering a warm slice of something sweet with a kind heart.
Virginia found simple pleasures in life, like her peaceful rides to Navarino Orchard for a donut and coffee, a tradition that brought her great joy. But above all, her greatest love was her family. She treasured every moment spent with them, especially her grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her days.
Virginia will be deeply missed for her warmth, generosity, and the way she made others feel cared for. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Paul, in 2016; and nine siblings.
Surviving are her daughters, Sheri Nelk of Syracuse, and Lori (Stephen) Hachey and Teri (Rich) Capria, both of Liverpool; son, David of Syracuse; grandchildren, Shane, Brenden, Brianna, and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Kai and Zuri; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
Virginia will be laid to rest in the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Syracuse.
