Volodymyr Smachylo, 57, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Ukraine, Volodymyr spent his early years in his homeland, where he proudly served in the Ukrainian military and earned his law degree. In 2001, he immigrated to the United States, bringing with him a strong work ethic, determination and an entrepreneurial spirit. Throughout his life, Volodymyr was a hardworking and successful businessman who took great pride in his many ventures. He was the owner and operator of SV Carrier and previously owned several businesses, including Europe Inc., a Ukrainian specialty store. His ambition, resourcefulness and dedication were evident in everything he pursued.
A man of many talents, Volodymyr was a true handyman who could fix, build or create just about anything. He enjoyed working with his hands and was always willing to lend his skills to help others. He was a devoted member of First Ukrainian Pentecostal Church, where his faith and connection to the Ukrainian community were important parts of his life.
Outside of work, Volodymyr had a love for traveling, experiencing new places and creating lasting memories. He was an excellent cook who found great joy in preparing meals and bringing people together around the table. For Volodymyr, sharing a meal was about more than food; it was an opportunity to enjoy good conversation, laughter and the company of those he loved. He also had a deep passion for music, which brought him happiness throughout his life.
Above all, Volodymyr was a devoted family man who treasured every moment spent with his loved ones. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, remarkable talents, strong determination and the love he shared so freely with his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Volodymyr was predeceased by his father, Mykhaylo Smachylo.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Svitlana; daughters, Iryna (Marko) Artymovych of Camillus and Sophia Smachylo of Syracuse; cherished grandson, Adam; mother, Maria Smachylo of Ukraine; sister, Olena of Ukraine; and several nieces.
