William LeMoyne Scheutzow, 71, a lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, passed away peacefully on Saturday. Bill was a National Merit Scholar and graduated from Christian Brothers Academy. He attended LeMoyne College. Bill worked at Cooper Decorating and Merchants Bank before he joined the staff at Shifty’s Bar and Grill in the 1970s. He was the “Greeter”, and so much more. He also helped schedule the talented musicians who made Shifty’s a local musical landmark, many of whom became his friends. His musical interests were life long and included playing guitar and serenading his youngest siblings during their evening bath time. Bill developed creative sports pools and his friends depended on him to have esoteric sports facts and statistics. He was an avid softball player and played with many teams over the years. He played in all league levels, including co-ed teams. He was a die-hard Yankees fan and followed SU sports. Bill delighted in his family. He took his role as the eldest of seven seriously. He was always generous in his expression of pride and affection for all his loved ones.
Bill’s family is grateful for the loving care provided by Villa Scalabrini, PACE CNY, and Chris and the staff at Fahey Rehabilitation Center.
